Pogues Bootlegs 1985
Many people consider 1985 to be one of the best live years for the Pogues xx-xx-85
A Pair Of Brown Eyes / Waxie's Dargle / Streams Of Whiskey / Muirshin Durkin
11-Jan-85 The Tube (Ch4 TV, UK) 9 min. Boys From The County Hell / Waxie's Dargle / Sally MacLennane / Whiskey You're The Devil (cut off) Also circulates on video (see Videos). 22-Jan-85 The Cricketers, Kennington, London, England 54 min. Greenland Whale Fisheries / Repeal Of The Licensing Laws / Boys From The County Hell / Whiskey You're The Devil / Kitty / Dark Streets Of London / Transmetropolitan / Sally MacLennane / Navigator (cut off) / The Auld Triangle / Dingle Regatta / Poor Paddy / Battle Of Brisbane / Waxie's Dargle / The Band Played Waltzing Matilda / Muirshin Durkin Very good audience recording. Spider doesn't appear to be very happy with the crowd - he insults and teases them. Muirshin Duirkin from this show is included on the "One Summer Evening" 10 inch black vinyl EP which was issued in a plain black sleeve with a track list insert and Pogues sticker. Pressed in very limited numbers by an unknown manufacturer in 2001. 01-Feb-85 Queen Margaret Union, Glasgow, Scotland 73 min. Greenland Whale Fisheries / Repeal Of The Licensing Laws / Boys From The County Hell / Whiskey You're The Devil / A Pair Of Brown Eyes / Dark Streets Of London / Transmetropolitan / Navigator / Sally MacLennane / Kitty / Dingle Regatta / Poor Paddy / The Battle Of Brisbane / Waxie's Dargle / Jesse James (instrumental) / Muirshin Durkin / The Band Played Waltzing Matilda / Streams Of Whiskey / The Auld Triangle / Dingle Regatta Earliest known version of "A Pair Of Brown Eyes" 02-Feb-85 Barrowlands Ballroom, Glasgow, Scotland
01-Mar-85 McGonagles, South Anne Street, Dublin, Ireland 58 min. Soundboard aka "Trinity College" Greenland Whale Fisheries / Repeal Of The Licensing Laws / Boys From The County Hell / Whiskey You're The Devil / Transmetropolitan / A Pair Of Brown Eyes / Dark Streets Of London / Streams Of Whiskey / Sally MacLennane / The Auld Triangle / Kitty / Dingle Regatta / Poor Paddy / Battle Of Brisbane / Waxie's Dargle / The Band Played Waltzing Matlida / Muirshin Durkin / Boys From The County Hell The Pogues first Dublin show was scheduled to take place at Trinity College, however, due to a last minute ban, the gig was switched to McGongales. Recordings of this show circulate under a variety of names and dates, including: "Trinity 01-Mar-85" with 13 songs; "McGonagles Feb-85" with 15 songs and "McGonagles Feb-85" with 18 songs. Sometimes the songs appear in a different order. I believe the above songlist is the "true" order. Anyway, if you have a bootleg from around this time where Spider says "We need to make a slight adjustment to the sound" just before "Whiskey You're The Devil" - it's this show. The Band Played Waltzing Matilda from this show is included on the "One Summer Evening" 10 inch black vinyl EP which was issued in a plain black sleeve with a track list insert and Pogues sticker. Pressed in very limited numbers by an unknown manufacturer in 2001. 05-Mar-85 Leeds University, England 67 min. The show circulates on CDR as "Vorsprung durch Alkohol" and features the first 16 songs - this version usually has perfect sound quality, but is missing the last 4 songs and much of the chat between songs. The full 71 min. show also circulates on but is usually poorer sound quality.
