The Pogues: Television appearances

This section contains details of television shows, documentaries, interviews, and various miscellanea.

South of Watford - Pub Rock Revisited (LWT TV,UK)
30-Mar-84
xx min.

"South of Watford looks at the countrybilly phenomenon to discover its musical roots, to assess why it's become popular and to gauge whether this raw, live sound will ever make it onto Top of the Pops". Includes clips of Pogue Mahone playing live at The Fridge, Brixton and an interviews with Shane MacGowan and Stan Brennan.

Shane articulates the main difference between Pogue Mahone and traditional Irish bar bands: "The stuff we play is more fucked up,cos you are more fucked up if you live in London than if you live in a nice little town in Tipperary". Presenter Ben Elton concludes: "I think it will be a while before Pogue Mahone, Gaelic for kiss my arse, by the way, are on Top Of The Pops. Some of the other bands may stand a better chance of breaking through to a wider audience. But in the long run, it's likely that countrybilly will stay where it's at its best - in the boozy, sweaty, raw atmosphere of live performance".

If anyone has a copy of the complete show, please get in touch.
